New main floor powder room mirror

June 27th, 2009 · No Comments

Wow.  We’ve been totally negligent about posting.  I think this renovation took all of the energy out of us.

We’ll get back to it.  Promise.

We’ve been without a mirror in the main floor powder room for over a year.  It was an odd dimension (long and narrow) and therefore needed to be custom made and we had too many other things to spend our money on.  Finally we bit the bullet and are happy we did.

We used Custom Art on King Street East.

Here’s how it looks:

Bathroom vanity is beginning to be installed

May 29th, 2009 · 9 Comments

Our custom vanity is now being installed. Custom Woodworking built the vanity after we ordered it through Dominic at Taps. It is all white with a marble counter top. It will take a few days as the under mount sink is siliconed, handles are installed, mirror hung etc… In addition we are missing a back piece of marble that is being delivered tomorrow. The initial one had cracked during delivery.

But in the meantime you can have a look as things progress:

Basement bathroom minutes away from being finished

May 23rd, 2009 · 4 Comments

Meanwhile the basement bathroom is nearly complete as well.

All that is left is for Jim to finish painting the baseboards, door and rad.

We didn’t have a lot of luck finding a paint colour we were both happy with. It took some “negotiation”. In the end we landed on a dark grey that adds some masculinity to the “man-cave” basement.

Fixtures and glass door installed in the second floor bathroom

May 23rd, 2009 · 2 Comments

A lot has happened since our last update.

The glass that we had ordered from Taps was delivered and installed by Doors and More. It basically splits the bathtub area into thirds. One third is a fixed piece of glass, one third is a door on hinges and one third is left open. This is exactly what we wanted.

Also Ben installed the fixtures and Jim is painting the room.

We should be completely done by next weekend. Hooray.

Basement nearly complete

May 13th, 2009 · 3 Comments

Well, well, well.  Just under three months later we are 95% done the basement renovation.  Ben was busy throughout the weekend installing the doors, finishing the trim and doing a massive DAP-fest to hide the nails, gaps, etc…

From there we were busy cleaning things and beginning to organize the clutter.  Feels good to be getting close to the finish line.

Next week Jim (painter extraordinaire 416-951-4446) is coming in for three days to finish as much as possible.  Our budget is way over and three days is the max we can bankroll at this point.  Three days of Jim means probably 5 weekend days that we don’t have to devote to painting!

Here’s a photo of how things look.  We’ll do a big before and after gallery once everything is done and painted.
