Making progress with the front of the house

June 28th, 2009 · 3 Comments

An update on the front of the house.  We’ve made good progress improving the curb appeal.  Probably the biggest change was when we replaced all of the windows and the front steps.

This spring we ripped out all of the bushes (including the stumps - that was fun!) and have planted the gardens with a japanese maple, hostas and lots of other plants that were kindly donated to us by family and friends.

Next week Ben Ware (bpware@gmail.com) will paint the front door, porch, steps and the third floor decorative shingles.  We’ll update with new photos once that is complete.

Here’s a reminder of how the house looked when we purchased it 1 1/2 years ago:

I love how you widened the front steps and got rid of those bushes. Great job! How big do those Japanese maples grow? Are you going to add handrails?

Hello. I just randomly came across your site and I’m really enjoying reading about your renovations.

I was just wondering if you are planning on replacing your front door and if so, have you sourced it out yet?

    Hi CC

    Thanks for your comment.

We love our old front door and plan on keeping it. However it will be painted black (as it is on the inside) when I finally get myself around to painting the front porch.

    Best. Kirk
