I gotta say…it’s tough doing a basement renovation when you have as much “stuff” as we do. All sorts of baby things (in case we decide to have a third), sports equipment, gardening stuff (since we don’t have a garage), off-season clothes, books (since we haven’t had a bookshelf until now), etc…etc…
All of this “stuff” has been moved around the basement 3 or 4 times which has been a real pain. Now that the storage room has been framed, insulated, and dry walled we finally were able to put it away. It gave us a truer indication of what the basement will look like when it’s done.
Funny story - our new basement windows were installed this past week. 4 brand new windows that look fantastic (Spencer did them for us since he had done the rest of the house previously). We came home to look at them on the day they were installed. I was walking around the house and noticed that one of them had not been changed. That seemed odd. Then it dawned on me that it had been covered on the inside because it was the old tenant’s bedroom. Because we had measured them from the inside we never even knew about it! Although we’ll have to wait another 3 weeks to replace this new one (and pay another $450), we’re thrilled to have the extra natural light in the basement.
Here’s how the basement is looking now (not great shots, but hopefully they give you an idea):

Wow! I went away for a few weeks and I’ve just come back and noticed all the posting you’ve done since the beginning of March when I left! You must be soo excited about how far you’ve come along with the washrooms/basement renovations! It look amazing!
We are very nearly done our basement reno (finishing the grouting this weekend and then just awaiting carpet installation which will hopefully be complete in the next couple of weeks). These photos look very similar to how my basement was looking as well! Don’t worry- it’ll get there!!!
ps. that is hilarious re: the covered up window– such a great surprise though!

Hi Laura
Thanks so much for your note (and welcome back!).
Our excitement is muted right now as we’re going through the dirtiest / dustiest part of the reno. Our taper/mudder is going hard and the demolition of the upstairs bathroom just got completed.
But the light is at the end of the tunnel!
