This one has been tough

March 25th, 2009 · 5 Comments

I’d be lying if I didn’t admit that this phase of our reno has been tough.

I’m not sure if we weren’t ready for it or if we’ve taken on too much all at once. But we are struggling with the constant dirt, interruption and some of the issues with the trades. Added to which both Anke and I are in our busiest parts of the year at work and it’s a recipe for stress.

In reality we are making good progress but sometimes it’s difficult to see the good when you’re in the wrong frame of mind. I think our first big reno (the whole main floor) was all kind of new to us. We were excited about what the results were going to be. This one is just a slog.

Anyways for all of those kind souls out there who follow the blog I just wanted to be honest about how we’re doing through this one. It’s tough but we’ll be happy in the end I am sure. Cheers.

hang in there! a year from now, you’ll be sitting back with a cold drink, and laughing it out.

5 months ago, my wife took our new born to visit her grandma for a week. I took a week off from work to redo our kitchen. New floor, new paint, new electrical, new trim, new fridge.

I worked for 6 days starting at 7am and stopping at 11pm. I was like a machine. The whole time I was wondering “what the heck did I get myself into” ..

Now, when all is said and done, people still comment what a difference the kitchen is, and you know what.. you forget the pain, sweat, tears, and blood.

Gosh.. I miss working on that kitchen. :)

Great story Leonk! Those must have been long and painful days.

You’re right…we’ll sit back soon and admire how it all looks. For now though it’s no fun :)

Even if sometimes people do not leave notes (like me), I am sure there are many who follow your adventures with interest. And, I am sure, they are joining me in saying what an amazing job you guys are doing and how encouraging it is to see what can be accomplished with some determination. So, while at times we feel down and just tired of the mess around us, I am sure there is a reason for it all - otherwise, why bother :) For some it is the end result, for the others it is the good times in the process itself. Whatever it is for you, I am certain that soon enough the tide will turn and you will be in your happy place again. Among other things, you have the gorgeous deck to look forward to once the weather becomes warmer! Keep it up and, again, great work!

    Janis

I can honestly say that your comment alone makes us feel better. What a nice thing to say…thank you.

And you couldn’t be more right about the deck! Now we just need some warm weather.

    Cheers, and thanks.

It was the best of times…it was the worst of times. No doubt Dickens was involved in renovations when he wrote those words( or something similiar!!). You guys have done an incredible job and will definitely be the beneficiaries. Hang in there!!
