We made a trip to Tap’s today to look at bathroom fixtures, tubs, toilets, sinks etc… We wanted to see how things compared to Ginger’s. We’ve previously purchased items from both stores depending on what we found and what we could afford.
We really liked what we found at Tap’s. We picked out a toilet from Toto (same one as we purchased for the downstairs bathroom), a sink, a nice 60×32 bathtub, a shower system, and all the necessary drains and other finishing pieces. We’re now waiting on a quote from our rep to see what he can do on the overall price.
Here’s a photo of the shower system that we’ll most likely go with (not a great photo but it will give you an idea). It has two shower heads: one rain shower at the top and then an adjustable smaller head on a vertical bar to raise and lower):
We also looked at some tile options. We really like marble for the floor (we did this in our old house and always liked it):
And we’re thinking about white subway tiles for the shower area with a band of more expensive and colorful tile to add a nice effect:
We’re starting to get really excited about how this is coming together. More to come as we finalize decisions and get a timetable for work to begin.

Nice selections. They’re similar to what we just put in our newly renovated bathroom. We considered the rain showerhead and separate handspray too, but ended up getting a rain showerhead on the adjustable bar to keep things simple.
If you want to price compare, I highly recommend PMF Plumbing. You can visit their showroom but will have to go through your contractor to purchase as they only sell to the trade.

This article reminded me that one should be pro active and prepared when it comes to renovation.

Try Roman Bath, MUCH nicer than TAPS and not as expensive as Gingers. And Weston Tile, much bigger selection than Olympia.

Hi Emma
Thanks a lot for the Roman Bath suggestion. We haven’t been so will add it to our list.
We’re going to use Olympia for the majority of our tiles because we have a friend who gets a significant discount there. In these economic times any help is good.

Hi, I am a interior designer from montreal and I am currently remodeling my bathroom. We quite have same taste! Maybe a hint for you: I found last friday at Centura (you have one in Toronto) a tile that PERFECTLY imitated calacatta oro marble. It comes in 12×12 or 12×24” wich is very nice and have honed and glossy finish. The company of these tiles is Rondine Group. The magic of it is that they are way cheaper than real marble and you dont have any sealing to do each year, wich is perfect when you have kids. Here is the link where you can find pictures: http://www.rondinegroup.com/materiali/ambienti.asp?id_collezione=38&sezione=elenco&tipologia=monolitico
Hope that may help you, good luck in your reno, Alexandra
