Update!

Lots has happened since we last did a post but nothing big enough to merit its own posting. So by putting it together into one there’s enough to talk about.

Cordell Mechanicalcame and installed a natural gas line for our new Weber s-420 bbq. The gas line was expensive since we covered 26 feet at $19 per foot! I’m happy to have it done but I can’t tell you that I’m happy with how much it cost. Blair at Cordell did a good job though and he was great as usual. I’m thrilled to be bbq’ing again!

We’ve continued working on the deck. I’ve custom ordered some 14 foot 1×4 cedar pieces to build the walls with. I’ve used Parliament Building Supplies for all of our decking materials. Decent service, good prices, ability to custom order and free delivery.

We should have photos of the final deck in about 10 days if all goes well.

In addition we have received a quote from Austin Hamilton Contracting (austinhamilton@hotmail.com) regarding our old kitchen on the second floor. If you remember we ripped out all of the old appliances and cupboards but now we have to turn it back into a bedroom / den. I think we’ll opt to put 1/4 inch drywall over the lathe and plaster versus completely ripping it down to the studs. This option is cleaner and less expensive.

But in order to complete the room we have to take out the door that used to go to a second floor patio and replace it with a window. We’ve now ordered the window but it will take 5 weeks to arrive. So we’re in a holding pattern on this front.

I just completed ripping off lath/plaster from one of my bedrooms and installing drywall. It was a huge job (1.5 ton of garbage generated!) But it was worth it. Th energy saving and noise reduction in installing R14 insulation + vapour barrier is really worth it. The added cost was insignificant (did it myself) compared to putting drywall on top of plaster.

Leon I know you are right (damn!). But I just don’t want the full meal deal in that room. The thought of more garbage (5 bins and counting…), more back pain, more mess is just throwing me off. I’ll try and wrap my head around it I promise. :)
