Update on the backyard deck construction

May 12th, 2008 · 2 Comments

The last couple of weeks have been full speed ahead on the back deck. We opted to go for the Weber BBQ and it will be delivered this week. Now it’s time to finish the deck to take advantage of the weather that’s soon to be here.

Our buddy Ben has been a workhorse in helping to move the deck ahead. Now that we have the frame built we have gotten a true sense of how big this thing is going to be. 20 feet wide by 14 feet deep is a big deck! We have lots of work left to do but here’s where we sit right now:

Hey guys - deck is looking great! Wanted to quickly inquire about your experiences with gaining city permits for this type of work. We had built a similar deck (18ft x 16ft) recently - replacing an existing structure that was already there and recently received a surprise visit from a city building inspector.

Apparently we needed to take out permits for the construction of the new deck, and at this moment, i’m frantically drawing up our plans to submit for a permit after the fact.

Was wondering what your experience has been with obtaining a permit for your back deck?

    Thanks!
