Glen and I were busy on Sunday tearing down the rest of the back extension and preparing the backyard for a deck. We’ve decided that this is going to be our next big project since we want to take advantage of the beautiful weather all summer long. We also need to upgrade the fence all along the back of the property and along one of the sides.

We’ve been spoiled by the fact that we had fully finished the back courtyard in our last house. The kitchen had two double doors that opened out to a flagstone courtyard. We left both doors wide open all summer long and just moved seamlessly between inside and out. It was great.

Now we want to re-create that feeling in this house. The great thing is that our backyard is much bigger so it has lots of room for the kids and the dog to play (for Toronto standards anyways).

Glen and Ben are going to help me build the deck and the fence. Ben’s going to lead us since he has a lot of experience building this kind of stuff. We’re also going to hire a couple of people to help dig all of the holes, lay the concrete and the foundation.

Right now Anke is looking for design inspiration. We’ll post photos as we find them.

Here’s the back of the house with all of the back extension down. This weekend I’ve got to clean it all out!
