So we had high hopes of being done phase 1 of the renovation this weekend but have fallen a little short. Even after having lived through almost 5 months of this reno we were naive enough to really think we’d be done! Our painter, tiler, electricians and plumber put in a great effort but we still have a few things to wrap up.
Here are 2 pics of the cruddy kitchen that we’ve been using on our 2nd floor up until now:
And here are 2 pictures of the lovely new kitchen that we moved all of our stuff down to this weekend! The hood and chimney over the stove, the trim kit around the microwave to make it look built in and the 3 pendant lights over our island all still need installing. Stuff that you can’t see ie. 3 way dimmers for the kitchen lighting as well as the electrical in the island (for an outlet and for the dishwasher) also need installing. But for the most part it’s fully functional and we couldn’t wait another second to start using it.

Wow Kirk. Looks amazing. Better send it in to some of Anke’s favourite magazines.

Yes- it feels like a big accomplishment… but also makes us want to start on the rest of the house as well!

Wow, looks great. Can’t wait to get an invite. I am really impressed that you have this website. Did you set this all up? So smart you guys. Enjoy your new kitchen, looks like it should be on a designer show on HGTV. Hugs to kids.

Thanks Fran. We’ll have to post some final pics soon- we’ve installed the stove hood/chimney as well as the trim kit for the microwave. the only thing missing is the lighting for over the island. We’re really loving the space.

Holy Moly - This transformation is amazing. I’d marry your new kitchen if I wasn’t already. I may just have an affair with it. In fact, is your kitchen doing anything tonight? What about Friday?

I just found your website today, and I am in love! Question about the kitchen though- what are the dimensions of the layout? I’m looking do something similar with my kitchen (which is 10×10) in so far as opening it up, but I’m not sure if I could make it all fit the way you did. I’m so impressed with your kitchen it hurts!

Thanks Laura. It caused me alot of sleepless nights so I’ve very happy that it turned out! The span of the back wall measures 12 1/2 ft and the measurement from the back wall to the front of the island measures 10ft.

What kind of material did you use for your cabinets, our kitchen people are saying we should use mdf instead of maple.

We used mdf as we wanted white cabinetry and are very happy with the quality of it.

I think I got confused with my last comment, was this in fact the room with the door exchanged to a window? Looks beautiful. Though as a cook, I bemoan the lack of one single big preparation space. The ones on either side of the sink will probably work out pretty well though
