Deep grey paint colour on the backwall

March 20th, 2008 · 6 Comments

For some time now Anke has been thinking of putting a really deep grey colour on the back wall of the house. We weren’t sure if it would work well given that we have now gone with a grey coloured countertop.

Darren, our painter extraordinaire recommended a grey that he really likes (Kendall Charcoal from Benjamin Moore) and that he’s used with success in various other jobs. The guy is amazing…last night he painted almost half of the back wall to show us what it would look like with no guarantees that it would be something we would go with. He even cut in around the shelves, the counters and the window sill for us to really get an idea of what it would look like.

We really like it, it’s a warm and rich colour that really gives dimension to the room (ok, Anke’s words not mine!) and are thinking of moving forward with it. Here’s a photo for you to see it. Let us know what you think!

I’m amazed and how wonderful your home is turning out. Bravo! It’s an inspiration for both my wife and I (who are working on our own semi in East York). If possible, can you e-mail me or post your contact e-mail address on this blog site?

Thanks Leon. It’s always fun to see the final stages of a space that you’ve been working on for so long come together. You can contact us directly at 247reno@gmail.com.

Its a beautiful colour. Not too cold or blue-based. Looks great with the white cabinetry.

Thanks- we’re really happy with the way it looks. Especially now since the carrera marble backsplash has been installed. Compliments it really well. Love your blog by the way!

I am considering painting my kitchens wall a charcoal gray. I jusst am not real sure. My cabiners are golden oak or honey oak. my appliances are stainless steel and my counters are granite with black, tan, gray and white. I want to make a statement. Please help!

The beauty of many paint companies now (like Benjamin Moore) is that they offer small containers of paint to take home so that you can test colours out. It’s really the best way to get a feel for whether or not a colour will work in your space- tiny swatches just don’t cut it. There are so many factors like lighting that can affect the way a colour will look on your walls.
