The counters were installed in the kitchen today. We’re really happy with the look. Our first reaction was that perhaps we should have gone darker but as the evening wore on we began to like them more and more. As you know we went with the Stone Gray colour of Caesarstone counters.
Two mistakes were made by the installers. The first was that they put a strip of counter behind the range which we don’t want. It makes the range stick out too far from the counters and we prefer it to be flush against the backsplash. Also they had only drilled one hole for the faucet instead of two (since we have a sprayer attachment as well). They are coming back on Friday to fix those two issues. Unfortunately it will delay our plumber from installing the faucet tomorrow which pushed things back. At this point as our patience wears thin that is not a good thing!
Here are a couple of photos to try and give you an idea of the look and colour of the counters.

We are in the debate mode and need to know over-all now that you have had time to settle in with the look…how is it? I have not had a chance to $cheque$ out the price yet, or where to buy it. I know if we go with this product our marble guy won’t be too happy.

We love the Caesarstone! It’s really beautiful and also incredibly durable. (this is coming from someone who had her heart set on marble). We opted for a carrera backsplash instead and the 2 tie in really nicely together. The distributor for Caesarstone in Canada is Ciot. You should go and check out their showroom. good luck!

Your kitchen is gorgeous and a real inspiration for my husband and I. We just recently purchased a home and will be making some changes to the kitchen including installing a new counter top. We are interested in the Caesarstone product. Would you mind telling me how much it was per squarefoot installed?

Thanks Andrea. We love our Caesarstone countertops- I don’t have a breakdown in cost by square foot but the approximate price of it installed was $6500. There are different features of the Caesarstone that affect the cost ie. the thickness and profile you choose as well as the colour. Caesarstone in general is slightly more expensive than granite and slightly less than marble.

We are making the final decisions on our kitchen. I really want carrara counters and backsplash, but i know we are messy people. So I was thinking carrara backsplash and caesarstone counters. Can you send or post a shot where we can see the two together? How do they look against each other? I was concerned about it looking “fake” next to “real.” Our cabinets are going to be a pale blue/grey, but traditional. I LOVE your kitchen and what a great site.

Thanks Katherine. I think your best bet would be to get chips of both materials to match up together to see for yourself- I don’t think a picture can do it justice- not for such a big decision to make anyways! Ciot will give you chips of the caesarstone (we used the stone grey) and Saltillo Imports (where we bought our carrera marble backsplash) will give you samples of the marble. If you’re not in the Toronto area I’m sure you can find another source for the carrera marble. I was originally worried about how they would sit together as well and find that they work beautifully together. The Grey Stone really feels like stone in look and feel. That being said, if your cabinets are pale blue/grey you could even go with one of their lighter choices in white- would look spectacular!

Hi guys,
I came across your site actually looking for drywall installation and finishing costs.
Love the site and what you’ve done with both your houses!
My wife and I are going through exactly the same process on our second house with almost the same timing as you (moved in Nov07). Right now our house is currently gutted and we are walled up in the “honeymoon suite” in the basement. We are stuck with some permit delays.
Also, my wife is going through the same turmoil with the counters - she loves carrera but can’t stand the idea of it getting stained or etched. She is also a chef, so the kitchen takes a lot of abuse!!!! She is leaning towards the blizzard white caesar stone.
I would love to send you some of our pictures, as the look very similar to yours.
Cheers,
Grant

So I can only find ceasarstone in “2003 concrete” color. They said it doesn’t come in a lighter color. Do you know if this is what you used or was it a different brand? Or maybe they just don’t have that sample? The concrete looks pretty good but its pretty dark. Also have you had any troubles with it scratching and looking white in the scratches.

We used the Caesarstone distributed by Ciot- there’s a showroom at Dufferin and Lawrence (if you live in Toronto) and they have all of the slabs there. We used stone gray. The material is incredibly durable- scratch, heat and stain resistant. We’ve been using it now for 6 months (with 2 small children) and it looks just as good now as the first day we had it installed.

This is to everyone that thinks MARBLE can not be used for a kitchen counter top. We at MARBLE TREND Say You Can! We invite you to come to one of our 2 showrooms and let us show you how marble can be used besides ceaserstone, silestone or any other engineered quartz in every application including KITCHEN COUNTER TOPs. If not convinced at the very least you will be more informed on the use of natural MARBLE.

Great blog! Could you tell me, if you know, what the installers used to attach the Caesarstone to the base cabinet? I have a friend who is getting Caesarstone for her low-VOC kitchen reno but the local showroom she went to didn’t seem to know whether the adhesive they use is low-VOC or not. Did your installers use a low-VOC adhesive or was it attached mechanically?

First of all…good for your friend for going the low-VOC route.
To be honest we have no idea how they attached the counters. We assume it was an adhesive and I’m doubtful it was low-VOC.
Please post the results when you hear how they did it for your friend. Thanks.

Hi Anke! We are almost finished our reno and we’re about to choose our counterops. I have my heart set on a grey caesarstone, our cabinets are cloud white from Cameo. How did your turns out? Are they too dark?

Also, do you happen to know what caesarstone color you used (number). The stone gray is not on their website
