We’re very close to finishing the main floor and the first phase of our renovations. We absolutely can’t wait! If all goes smoothly we’ll be done by the Easter long weekend.
The guys from Dennis Contracting have been here this week installing all of our wooden baseboards, doors and window casings which were purchased from Central Fairbank Lumber. We went with a 3 panel Shaker for the double closet doors and pocket door for the the powder room and a very simple profile for the baseboards and casings. Not too traditional but also not too modern in keeping with the architecture of the house.
Ideally we had wanted to recreate the same original window casings throughout the rest of the house. But since the walls extend out further than the original (due to new framing, installation and drywall) there wasn’t enough space to make it work in behind our large radiators positioned underneath each bank of windows on the main floor.
We had also contemplated wainscotting the wall running along and underneath our main staircase but the estimate came in around $3000. Not currently in the budget!
Darren our painter arrived today and started prepping everything to start painting tomorrow evening. Fingers crossed he’ll be done by the end of the weekend.
The countertops are installed on the 19th
The tiler arrives on the 20th to tile our kitchen backsplash
The plumber arrives on the 21st to hook up our sink, fridge, gas stove and toilet and sink in our powder room.
We’ve got to start planning our next reno phase!
