After the quote from Cordell Mechanical that I outlined in a previous post I decided to do some research and get some other estimates. A gentlemen named Dan was nice enough to submit a comment with the name of someone he recommended and I received another referral from my sister.
Wow…lots of varying information about what type of system to go with and the attached costs associated with them. My head is spinning with the names and types of boilers, tankless vs. indirect hot water systems and multi-function boilers that do both.
I’ll post everything once I have it tonight…but let me just re-iterate what Dan told me in that comment he posted: do a lot of research and talk to many different people before making up your mind. There is a huge discrepancy in costs and the associated benefits are difficult to understand (at least for Anke and I they are!).
More to come once I have all of the information tomorrow.

Hi Anke, This comment might be too late, but the boiler we have in our 1889 Victorian house is a Viessman mid-efficiency boiler which we use both to heat our house (via radiators and underfloor hydronic radiant heat) and our water. Several of our neighbours have the same boiler. We are very happy with its performance so far.

Hi there
Thanks SO much for the tip. We’re going with a high-efficiency to get the $1,200 credit from the ecoGRANT. It seems to make the most sense to us in the circumstance. But I can tell you that I’m not 100% sure of anything when it comes to this decision!
