The guys completed the drywalling on time as per their projected timeline of Jan.16th and the taping and mudding has begun. It’s really amazing to see how the space is taking form now that the walls are up. Here are some pics of what it looks like. The timeline for Darren to finish all of the taping, mudding, sanding, priming and first coat of paint is Jan.31st. I next have to organize the floors to be done by our guy Danny from Capital Flooring.

I am really enjoying your blog, we also have an old house in Toronto and we are planning many of the same projects.
We want to gut our mainfloor and frame ourselves, would you recommend hiring someone for the drywall stage? How much can you expect to pay to have drywall installed/taped/mudded etc (like in your picture above) Many thanks.

Hi there
Good luck with your renos.
It’s hard for us to estimate those costs for you. These days it seems like talented trades (drywallers, tapers/mudders/painters) are available for $20 or so per hour.
Hanging the drywall is not that difficult. If you can frame the walls you can likely hang the drywall…but we’ve found that taping/mudding is a skill that is worth the $$.
All the best.
