Kitchen Floor Plan changes

December 4th, 2007 · 1 Comment

Trevor and crew began the framing of the main floor yesterday- very exciting! We need to have the Kitchen and Powder Room framed in by Wednesday for when Marco from Altima Kitchens comes by to take measurements. (They won’t order cabinetry until the space has been framed and confirmed).

By this afternoon it was pretty clear that we weren’t going to be able to fit in our 7ft Island as we’d originally planned. The back wall of the Powder Room wouldn’t allow for enough walking space between it and the Island. We began walking through all sorts of configurations and realized that in order to not compromise the space of the Kitchen, the Powder Room was going to have to move.

We relocated it to where our front hall closet was going to be and then moved the front closet across from it where we were going to have a wall separating the entrance and living room anyways. It also allowed us to make good use of the pretty round window at the front of the house that would’ve been covered by the closet.

We’re still back to square one however as far as the new Kitchen layout goes. With the removal of the Powder Room we’ve picked up a few extra feet on the Pantry wall… which actually makes it too long. By gaining space on the one side, we decided to cut back the space on the back wall to allow for a bigger play area/ t.v zone. I’ve been busy researching my magazines and going on line to figure out how best to use this new space!

Oh my! I spoke to soon, it looks like you do have kids! You are a saint! I’m not looking forward to my next reno (whenever that may be) with my kids and husband underfoot the whole time. Oh well, I’m sure I’ll manage! Things look really great, the paint makes a huge difference. Good job!
