We’ve been struggling a bit with planning the space of the main floor powder room. It will sit in between the kitchen and the staircase leading downstairs. We don’t want the door to open either into the kitchen or opposite the dining room for obvious reasons so we have to work with the door opening 45 degrees from the doorway leading to the downstairs. I hope that makes sense for a visual!
I did some research on line (what did we ever do without the internet??) to figure out what’s the minimum amount of space that is required for a powder room and found out that it should be at least 16 sq ft. We want it to be comfortable but not take away too much space from the kitchen or the sight line as you walk in our front door.
In order to get a better idea for our layout we went shopping today for bathroom fixtures (sink, toilet and faucet). There are some great small fixtures you can find, particularily sinks, that can save alot of space. We headed to Ginger’s first. Their fixtures are stunning and every once in a while you can find great deals in their sale area. If you’re able to save on some things, it allows you to splurge on others!
We lucked out. We found a beautiful polished chrome single bathroom faucet made by Cisal Robinetteria that was regular $299.95 for $179.99. We also found a polished chrome kitchen faucet made by the same manufacturer that was regular $799 for $349!!
They have a great assortment of small sinks and we bought their Acquababy basin for $395.95- it measures 15″ wide by 11 1/4″ deep and they custom drilled the hole to fit our faucet.
We also bought the Supreme Elongated toilet made by Toto (which is a Japanese brand of water efficient toilets) for $429.99. (Also, it’s eligible for $60 back from the City of Toronto since it’s a low-flow toilet.)
Ginger’s has their own private label brand of accessories which I love and purchased for our previous home. We bought their Soho 33 paper holder and 18″ towel bar again for the powder room. They look beautiful and are very reasonable (towel bar $79.95 and paper holder $84.95).
All in all it was a success. We found beautiful items for our new home and came in on budget!

I did some research on line (what did we ever do without the internet??)… Too bad, you are NOT utilizing the internet! Go to ebay and you can find a much better deals on a better brand names. I bouth all bathroom fixtures on ebay, Dornbracht tub filler (regular 1800 $ but paid 300$ ), Jado accessories (600 but paid 200) and Groge F1 wall mount faucet ( 1000 but paid 260) all in brush nickel and platinum. Good luck

We’re trying not to get defensive about your comment. I think you can see that we clearly use the internet given the design inspiration Anke gets from many different sources…and given the fact that we are blogging about the whole thing.
Good for you for finding some good deals on eBay.
