Kitchen layout plan re-worked

November 14th, 2007 · No Comments

I was unsettled about our original Kitchen layout plan. Somehow the upper cabinetry seemed disjointed to me. We have approximately 10ft on one wall to work with and 13ft on the other (the 13ft runs along the back wall of the house) creating an L. In addition to this we’re planning a 7ft island to run parallel with the back wall. There are some pipes going up to the bathroom, some sort of old brick chimney stack and 2 extra inches of support beam that we need to negotiate around.

An idea came to me while I was in the shower on Sunday night so I immediately drew it out for Kirk to see what he thought and he loved it. On the 10ft wall I drew out a floor to ceiling pantry wall that will house the refrigerator, a wine rack, 3 pantry doors and then open shelving for our microwave and cookbooks that will sit above the counter top. The pantry and refrigerator will have additional cupboards above. Lots of storage space!

The back 13ft wall will have no upper cabinetry- it has a window on the left hand side, the stove and hood will be centered and then to the right of the stove we will have 3 free floating shelves to house all of our everyday dishware and glassware.

The 7ft island will be flat as opposed to having a raised breakfast bar so the sight line from the front door will be the large island with the expansive wall of tile, stove, window and free floating shelves behind it. Not to mention the french doors and transom immediately to the right. I think it’ll look great!

I met with Marco this morning at the house to discuss the changes and for him to have a look at the space. He is going to create a 3D drawing for us which we will show you when it’s ready and also re-work the quote. We should have this by early next week. Exciting!
