Outstanding quotes

November 10th, 2007 · No Comments

We met Spencer at the house at 8am today to dicuss our oustanding quotes for the electrician as well as the patching of plaster and painting of the 2nd and 3rd floors.

We did well with the electricians quote- it came in at $13,500 and we had budgeted $15,000. About 75% of the house is still knob and tube and needs to be converted over to new wiring. The house is large so its an extensive job. This price also includes installing pot lights on the main floor and running phone and cable lines to all three floors.

The quote for patching all of the cracks in the plaster and then painting all of the walls, ceilings and baseboards came in at $3500. Lathe and plaster is a nightmare- it’s such a pain to repair and very time consuming. This price doesn’t include all the patching that will be required after the electrician goes into the walls to convert the electrical.

We had a chance to peek into our new neighbours house (which was impressive) and learned that in some rooms they had simply put dry wall over the plaster ceilings to combat all of the cracking and repairing. Brilliant! The ceilings are so high on our second floor that it wouldn’t take away from their height. Kirk and I are seriously considering doing this for some of our rooms.
