Bruce Hanson the energy advisor from Building Insight arrived tonight at 6pm to check out the energy efficiency (or lack there of!) of our home. The assessment took approximately two hours and cost $295 + gst. We needed to provide him with our Municipal Tax Roll number and a check for the amount. The government gives you a rebate of $150 for the assessment which apparently gets sent out within 5 to 6 weeks.
Bruce will be putting together the report and sending out to us within the next few weeks. From that point on we will have 18 months to implement all or some of his suggestions on changes we should make. It costs another $150 + gst to have them come back in again to reassess our home. From there they determine what your rebate will be (there are standard guidelines on the ecoEnergy Retrofit Grant website ie. $30 per window etc.) and the rebate will be sent out within 90 days.
Whatever dollar amounts you see listed on the website you can double as the federal government is matching the provincial government rebates.

Very nice web site. I would have a question and maybe you asked the same from other people before you started the ecoenergy retrofit process.
Will the “eco” upgrade of a home have any effect on my municipal tax bill? Or why is there a requirement to provide Municipal Tax Roll number?
Thanks

Good question. To be honest we never asked why we had to provide it. If you look in to it more and find out why please let us know!
Thanks, Anke

The roll number is required so that the audit can be properly reported to the gov…it means that you are the owner and that the audit was performed on a qualifying building…it’s the gov’s way of checking things. I don’t think it would affect the tax bill, but can’t confirm either way.
