O.k so I had a bit of a meltdown after our second walk through of the house last night. I felt REALLY overwhelmed by the amount of work that needs to be done, how long it will take, how much it will cost and how it’s going to affect our lives as a family. It’s not an easy process to go through, particularily with 2 small children, but ultimately in order to get through it you have to keep focused on how spectacular the end result will be. Short term pain for long term gain!
Trevor and Spencer our contractors met us at the house as well as the agents and Edgar from Elte to measure the third floor space for carpeting. Trevor and Spencer focused on taking exact measurements to draw up the plans. Kirk and I took notes as to how we would fit our current furniture in the 2nd and 3rd floors and what we are going to have to store as well as took measurements for baby gates etc.
Kirk and I were having issues over putting in the carpeting. The carpet from Elte was coming in way over budget ($2500 was budgeted… which I thought was a little low anyways and the quote was coming in closer to $7000!) and he felt it wasn’t a necessary expense at this point in time. I on the otherhand felt that it was worth putting in and wanted to find some wiggle room in the budget to take from elsewhere as well as re-source to see if I could get it in for less.
My point was that with new windows, painted walls and new broadloom the third floor would be a great little haven in the house. It will be the kids bedrooms and the old carpet is pretty gross. Kirks point was that eventually we’d like to convert the third floor into a master bedroom and ensuite… we’d then be ripping half of the beautiful carpet out again. Things were already coming in over budget and he felt we could put that money towards the main floor. Stay tuned as the battle isn’t over!
